ELISABETH HELENE SÆTHER (1959)
First and foremost, I am deeply passionate about my work and dedicated to exploring how we work with unfinished gestalts and trauma. I am driven by a desire to create space for exploring our own "unfinished business"—investigating what makes us vulnerable to trauma, and why it often takes so long before we truly focus on what has affected us.
It took me many years to realize that I, too, carried trauma, unfinished gestalts, and fixed responses. For a long time, I lived a life I didn’t quite recognize as my own. Through my own personal therapeutic journey, I have experienced firsthand how early life experiences impacted the choices I made, how I held myself back, judged myself, and struggled to know who I truly was.
Does this resonate with you, too?
For the most part, I lived through my creative adjustments and survival strategies. But bit by bit, slowly but surely, I am becoming more of who I am. I suspect you might be on a similar journey.
I am by no means "finished." I still attend therapy regularly to continuously experience this work in my own body. This ongoing personal practice is exactly what enables me to teach and support other Gestalt therapists in their clinical work. I deeply love my role as a supervisor for practicing therapists and students, as well as for those who wish to experience and explore the Field-Support method.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
In my earlier career, I qualified as a teacher specializing in physics and chemistry, and successfully built and sold two companies. Shifting my focus to human psychology, I completed a five-year coaching education alongside a supervisor specialization in dream work. I studied Psychosynthesis (transpersonal psychology) for two years at the Norwegian Institute for Psychosynthesis before transferring to the Norwegian Gestalt Institute College (NGI) for a four-year Gestalt therapy education. Following my graduation, I worked there as a substitute teacher and supervisor for 7 years.
I hold advanced continuing education in both therapy and supervision for Gestalt therapists.
I am a registered Gestalt Therapist and Supervisor MNGF (and a member of the EAGT through the Norwegian Gestalt Association, NGF). While I have explored several trauma modalities, I have firmly landed on the Gestalt method—practiced "my way."
In recent years, I have taught at the Gestalt Institute in Kraków, where I run my own continuing education program/Trauma School. Here, qualified Gestalt therapists and practitioners from other modalities learn to work with the Field Support method. I also collaborate and practice in Budapest/ Hungary.
